RAGA has entered
the Western Province Schools League. We pick
a team based on a combination of factors. We look not just
at golf handicaps but
also effort, persistence and drive. That way
we try to ensure most of the students get a chance over the course
of their time at the Academy to represent
RAGA.
The highlight thus far... winning a close match against Reddam House School at Steenberg Golf Course. We fielded a young team but their determination and effort paid off! Kelly A Wolvaardt captains the team. |
After just a year in the Academy, three boys competed in the Clovelly Men's Club Championship, and wow... Shane De Kock came second overall in his division, and Yaseen Manuel won the Prentice Cup for the best junior! Well done to Siphuxolo Melamane on a solid performance in his division!
Former RAGA student and Western Province (WP) golfer Emelia Coetzer won the Ladies Club Championships, and current 15 year old RAGA student Lauren Sobotker came third! Well done, ladies, we're very proud of you!
Lauren has also represented Western Province (WP) Junior Girls and her list of golfing achievements is growing rapidly:

A celebration of Mr Ackerman's 80th birthday. On his birthday, Mr Ackerman asked not for gifts but for the support of RAGA from his invited guests. Thank you to all the guests who contributed generously and thank you Mr Ackerman. The team of Kelly, Lauren, Siphuxolo and Yaseen made us all proud coming second in the 2011 Raymond Ackerman Invitational at Clovelly. |

What a fantastic and fun filled RAGA golf
day, held at Clovelly Country Club,
the home of the Raymond Ackerman Golf
Academy. A big thank you to all
the sponsors and people involved in
putting the day together.
There were so many highlights on the day: everyone loved teeing off the clubhouse balcony (at least those who were not afraid of heights) the delicious food produced by the sushi chefs was sublime, and our MC, Dan Nicholl, had fun with everyone. The end result was a great day and a brand new 15 seater Academy bus to transport the students! Watch this space for the 2011 Raga Golf Day on 10 November. |
