Alizwa Maqala

ACADEMIC: GRADE 9 Masiphumele High School

Academic Progress:  Alizwa has a positive approach to her school work even though her school often lets her down by not having teachers.  She is resourceful, asking for help from neighbours when needed.  She works hard and gives herself encouraging messages about her efforts.  She looks in a good position to pass this year.

Post-School Vision: Alizwa is interested in design and creativity and she would like to use a computer to do designs for buildings.

GOLF: Handicap

Comment: Aizwa has show much initial potential however struggles with her grip. Alizwa is  a keen listener however struggles to follow instructions. She needs individual attention and needs to focus on one particular aspect of golf at a time. During the on-course coaching Alizwa excelled. Alizwa was one of the Junior students who showed dedication through weekend practices on the range.

LIFE SKILLS: The President’s Award

Alizwa received a note from The President’s Award Office thanking her for her detailed Bronze Award Portfolio which was a pleasure to read. Completing 24 hours community work for her Bronze in a Kids Safe House in Masi and helping out with street cleaning in her community really showed Alizwa how much she loved helping people. This type of work she is continuing to do for her Silver Award Community Service Section. Learning about Public Speaking and putting it into practise opened Alizwa’s eyes to the opportunities in the World when you present yourself correctly. Speaking in English for this Skill, Alizwa is now taking extra Academic lessons to improve on her school work for her Silver Skill Section.

Picking up a Golf club for the first time during her Bronze Award and learning the rules of Golf was something that Alizwa says she never ever dreamed of playing. She is now continuing with Golf improvement for her Silver Award as she has decided that it is the Sport for her.

Finding the Adventurous Journey walking 24kms over 2 days the biggest challenge during her Bronze Award, Alizwa is looking forward to the next Adventurous Journey on the Silver Award. She enjoyed being away from home in a quieter environment where her confidence grew each day putting together each skill she has learnt along the way.
