Andile Nkwandla

ACADEMIC: GRADE 10 Masiphumele High School

Academic Progress:  Andile has taken note of things that negatively affect his marks – friends who are a bad influence, too much time on his cell phone, playing around in class and laziness.  He is making an effort to turn around his attitude to school.  He has had a substantial improvement in English this year of which he is very proud.

Post-School Vision: Andile is interested in studying Business Administration.  He has a great interest in working in an office, working on a computer and coming up with ideas to improve business systems.

GOLF: Handicap

Comment: Andile has shown improvement on the range. He is a very good listener when it comes to following instructions and carrying out those instructions as well.Andile sometimes struggles to concentrate when on-course lessons are taking place and at this time his mind wonders off slightly. He needs to focus more when it comes to on-course lessons as well as staying focused throughout the lesson.

LIFE SKILLS: President’s Award Bronze

Andile received a note from The President’s Award Office congratulating him on his Bronze Portfolio. He completed 25hours helping in Masiphumelele with a street clean, volunteering at a kids safe house and a crèche and helping a family living in a shack to gain his Community Service part of his Bronze Award. It was helping the family and the reward it gave him during this time that made Andile decide to continue with them for his Silver Award. They have a small yard and Andile is in the process of transforming it for them to be a safe place for the children to play and for the family to sit outside in. So far he has volunteered there for over 25hours.

During his Bronze he learnt the skill of Public Speaking. Shy at first, Andile’s English improved as well as his deportment and eye contact. His ability to listen well and pay attention helped during his choice of learning Golf for his sport section which he will continue to improve upon for his Silver Award. Ever keen to improve with his English and studies, Andile is having extra academic lessons to improve on his school marks.

During the Adventurous journey for Bronze, walking 24kms over 2 days, Andile learnt a lot about teamwork and communication and how to get his peers to listen to him. For his Silver Adventure I’m sure we are going to see a leader emerge.
