ACADEMIC: GRADE 10 Masiphumele High School
Academic Progress: Mihlali recognises the value of intentionally listening in class and revising work at home. She has specific strategies for improvement and is aware of the particular areas of each subject that need attention. Her maths mark for term 2 is not a fair reflection of her ability in this subject. She says that she needs to practice more and recognises that her cellphone is a distraction.
Post-School Vision: Mihlali is interested in medicine, and particularly in women’s health. She says that she is brave enough to help a person give birth and that she likes to discover new things!
Comment: Mihlali often struggles when it comes to instructions.Mihlali does get easily distracted if she is surrounded by her friends. When she is on her own she performs well.Mihlali has struggled with on-course coaching slightly but her knowledge about course management has improved.
LIFE SKILLS: President’s Award Bronze
Mihlali received a note from The President’s Award Office thanking her for her detailed Portfolio of evidence for her Bronze Award which she received in June this year. ‘Never giving up’ was something that Mihlali learnt during her Bronze Adventurous training walking 24kms over 2 days and sleeping in a bunkhouse. Nothing is impossible and planning is crucial. This she will be taking towards her Silver Adventurous journey in April 2017 when she joins her peers for a 3 day adventure.
Learning Public speaking for her Skill in her Bronze Award helped Mihlali with her English and also her confidence. She wants to be taken seriously in life so is doing extra academic lessons as her Skill in Silver to improve her school work.
Working in an Orphanage for 24hrs helped Mihlali understand about the people who really needed help and what a difference she could make. Her community means a lot to her and she will be helping out at African Hope situated in Masi for her Community Service Silver as well as the library. So far she has amassed over 40hrs in her spare time. She does her community service twice a week as well as improving on her Golf Skills which she started in the Bronze Award to get her Silver.
